Instructions for use
We recommend using the Rhyncho Pro Classic bottle (a small bottle with a wick containing Rhynchophorus ferrugineus pheromones, kairomone-based lures, and synergists) with the black Pitfall trap.
Preparation:
Place the trap at least 5 metres (ideally 10 metres) from the foot of the palm tree. Bury the lower half (yellow colour) of the trap. Fill this half with about 3 to 4 cm of liquid paraffin or rapeseed oil. The oil’s viscosity increases the catch rate and eliminates problems related to the evaporation of soapy water. Add the micro-perforated collection basket.
Open the small packet or bottle containing the pheromone and place it inside the trap. Make sure you wear lightweight gloves so that you do not contaminate the pheromone with a human scent. Screw the bottle on the removable ring provided or attach the bag to one of the small hooks available. Place the black top on the trap to close it up.
The weevils attracted to the solution made of pheromones, kairomones, and synergists enter the trap through the gap between the yellow and black halves. The oil stops the weevils from leaving the trap.
Use:
Empty the trap without replacing the pheromone when the number of insects caught is excessive (at least once a week). Add extra oil if needed.
When used to detect, place two traps per hectare. One diffuser attracts weevils within a 150-metre vicinity.
If the traps do not catch any weevils, the palms are well protected, and no additional treatment is needed.
One dose covers 3 to 4 months of protection (approximately).
